At first I would figure out the whole number, which in this case is 16.64. I got the sixteen from the the tens cube(thousands cube) and the 6
ones(flats) added together. I didn't add the 6(rods) and the 4(little cubes) because they represent tenths and hundereths and they are after the
deciamal point. And they tenths and the hundereds added is 64 in total. So that is how I got 16.64. Then I didvide 16.64 by two which is 8.32.
Then I didvide 8.32 again by 2 which is 4.16. This is called Repeate halving. This is an easy staratagey because two is a number to add and
didvide and multiply.-Sukhmeen Gr.5

Sheena and I had similar strategies to figure out this problem.

Sheena's strategy ; I added 1 + 6 + 6 + 4 because we had 1 large cube, 6 flats, 6 rods, and 4 small cubes. 1 + 6 + 6 + 4 = 17 so now I cutted the question down. Then now its 17 ÷ 4 then I estimated the 17 into the 16 because 17 is an odd number and the pattern of 4s are all EVEN. And 16 is the closest number to 17. And 16 ÷ 4 = 4. I know that because 4 x 4 = 16. I estimated and used inverse operation. To get to the real answer, I remembered how I got to 16 by using 17. So my real answer is 4.25.

Chiara's strategy; My strategy was to just forget about the the tenths and the hundredths.. So the number would end up to 16. and since we had to dived 16.64 into four groups, I decided to divide 16 into 4.
So then so then 16.64 ÷ 4 = about 4! :)
